Belfast, Stormont, and the Queen's University

Today was my first trip to Belfast.  I tagged along with Anna from PRG and Jake from UofO to two meetings.  The first meeting was at Stormont, the amazing building where the Northern Ireland Assembly meets.  Anna and Jake were there to meet with the head of Education Service to complete plans for the upcoming “Let’s Talk Politics” events where first-time voters around the country meet and ask questions of the country’s political leaders.

The second meeting was at the Queen’s University.  The Queen’s University is one of only two universities in all of Northern Ireland.  The other university is the University of Ulster, which is located in Derry, and is also where I am staying for my first four weeks here.  The purpose of the meeting at the Queen’s University is top secret, but suffice it to say that the discussion was very interesting, and that overall, the meeting was extremely productive.  And the seafood chowder at the restaurant down the street from the university was excellent.

On the drive back to Derry, Anna and I talked about politics, babies (she is 7 months pregnant), life in Derry, infrastructure, and a variety of other things.  I really like Anna.  She is smart, articulate, passionate, compassionate, and she has a great sense of humor.
